AND THIS IS WHAT I MEAN… September 25, 2014

Shortly after I published my previous post, in walks an older gentleman – 86 I do believe he said – who wanted a sand pail and some beach umbrellas.  You see, his 2 sisters from England were here for a months’ visit – may I add his sisters are 88 and 92!!!!! – and they had to go to Sandbanks to build a sandcastle on the beach.  If that doesn’t make you smile I don’t know what would.  One can  only hope that we are as spry and as happy as this man at his age despite his long standing wife (who was also in the car waiting) who has had dementia for 10 years. God Bless!

Truly, the best part of owning the store (for me) is the array of people I get to meet and the stories I get to hear.  Some stories are good with happy endings, some not so good.  I love to hear of the vacation spots people are headed to and the ones they’ve visited.  People from all corners of the earth have walked through our doors and it still behooves me sometimes how they end up in Picton…., from say, Qatar!  Not to mention that I can now say I’ve watched some of my customers grow up before me!  It can be a crazy place in the summer and down right lonely in the winter but it’s the people that make it what it is for me.  Keep on coming, folks and don’t be afraid to chat.  I’m all ears!

Summer is over.  Sad to see it go (would have been much more sad had it actually ever arrived).  The streets are much barer.  The store is much quieter.  The days seem much longer, here, alone. So please, if you are out and about, do stop by even if it’s just to say ‘hello’.  Enjoy this season for all it has to offer….comfy clothes (which we have lots of), pumpkins, better sleeping weather, beautiful colours and MacIntosh applies!  What are your favourite fall things?
